On 8 December 2018 a human rights activist, historian, public figure, chairwoman of the Moscow Helsinki Group Lyudmila Mikhailovna Alekseyeva passed away.

Lyudmila Mikhailovna Alekseyeva was one of the founders of the Moscow Helsinki Group, the oldest human rights organization in Russia, as well as a member of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights.

Lyudmila Mikhailovna took active part in the events of the Consortium. She gave a speech at the First (2011) and Second (2014) Summer Schools of the Consortium at RUDN University. Lyudmila Mikhailovna shared her experience and told the Consortium students about what a human rights defender should be like. Lyudmila Mikhailovna made an invaluable contribution to the development of the human rights movement in the Russian Federation. All universities-members of the Consortium express their sincere condolences to the family and friends of Lyudmila Mikhailovna.
