News of the SU: “Important: discussing human rights”

15 October 2019, Yekaterinburg – an international scientific and practical conference will be held on the topic “Development of the theory and practice of protecting human rights in the XXI century”.

The conference is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the 100th anniversary of the International Labour Organization, and the 70th anniversary of the Council of Europe. The event is held with the participation of students and teachers of the Consortium of Russian Universities, supported by the UNHCHR and the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, as well as with the participation of students and teachers of other Russian and Ural universities, representatives of state authorities and civil society.

Organizers of the conference: Ombudsman in the Sverdlovsk Region, Sverdlovsk Regional Branch of the RALN, Sverdlovsk Branch of “Russian Red Cross” LLC, Public Council for Civic Education in the Sverdlovsk Region, Liberal Arts University (Yekaterinburg).

Questions proposed for discussion and discussion for the conference participants:

  • Traditional and new theories, concepts, generations of human rights.
  • New challenges, risks and threats to human rights in the XXI century.
  • Current problems of human rights protection in the context of international, European and Russian experience.
  • Civil participation, protection of public interests and public control as the main directions of development of civil society.
  • The main strategies and tactics for the development and promotion of human rights in the modern world.
  • Topical issues of environmental, financial, legal security of the individual.
  • Human Rights and Democracy Indexes: Research Experience of International and National Organizations and Institutions.
  • The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the challenges for their achievement.
  • Current problems of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

Working hours of the conference: registration from 9.15 to 10.00, plenary session from 10.00 to 13.00, break from 13.00 to 13.30, continuation of the plenary session and discussion from 13.30 to 17.00.

Location: Yekaterinburg, pl. Oktyabrskaya, 1, Government House of the Sverdlovsk Region. Entry with a passport and a general list of pre-registered participants.

Invited for participation: university professors, researchers, representatives of state authorities and civil society, practicing lawyers, bachelor, master’s and postgraduate students.

The following information must be indicated in the application: name, place of work, position. Bachelor and master’s students must indicate the name of the university, study year, faculty/institute/department. The application must also indicate academic degrees, titles (if any), the topic of the speech at the plenary session (15-20 minutes) or open discussion (7-10 minutes), and contact information (phone, email).
