Perm, VII Summer School on Human Rights finished its work

The VII Summer School on Human Rights “Protection of human rights – the basis for achieving sustainable development goals in the 21st century” was held in Perm on 24-28 June 2019. The School was organized by the Perm State National Research University in cooperation with the Office of the Ombudsman and the authorities of the Perm Region. The Summer School is an obligatory event within the framework of the inter-university master's program “International Protection of Human Rights”, carried out by the Consortium of Russian Universities with the support of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

The VII Summer School was dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role of human rights in their implementation. Plenary lectures, seminars, presentations, round-table discussions were held within the framework of the Summer School, a festival of films about human rights “Stalker” and a moot competition of the European Court of Human Rights were held. The ECtHR Moot Competition was organized in cooperation with the Human Rights Defence Association (Plaider les Droits de l'Homme, Strasbourg). 1st place in the competition was taken by participants from Yekaterinburg, 2nd place – by a team from Moscow and the 3rd place – by the united team of Perm and Voronezh.

The Summer School participants were able to communicate with experts and practitioners in the field of human rights, as well as with visiting lecturers of international level, representing UN treaty bodies, UN special procedures, OHCHR, Council of Europe, European Inter-University Centre (EIUC) and the model of the ECHR.

The Summer School program included three thematic clusters: “Business, Sustainable Development Goals and Human Rights”; “Human Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals in the Digital Age”; “30 Years of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: Human Rights Begin with the a Child”.
