Department of International Law, Institute of Law, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia named after Patrice Lumumba (PSO of the department) and The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in the Russian Federation is organizing a competition of analytical works on refugee law. The main prize of the competition is a trip to St. Petersburg

Undergraduate and graduate students

What is the task?

Write an analytical paper of up to 15 pages.

Themes:

burden sharing in refugee protection: international legal obligation or political declaration?
refugee rights = human rights?
are refugee protection and state security interests compatible?
access to the territory of the state of asylum – a new interpretation of the right to freedom of movement?
access to the procedure for determining refugee status - how to increase efficiency?
access to the exercise of human rights by persons seeking asylum in the Russian Federation;
how to unlock the human potential of refugees for the benefit of all parties (refugees, host society, states)?

You can also touch on other issues of international and/or domestic refugee law

Prize

The winner outside the competition is accepted among the participants of the Summer School on Migration, organized by the St. Petersburg regional branch of the Russian Red Cross within the framework of the UNHCR and RKK program, with payment of all expenses necessary for participation
