Water is vital for survival and, along with sanitation, helps in protecting human health and the environment. Everything depends on it – the state of our organisms and our cities, the work of industry and agriculture.

On 10 December, we mark the 70th anniversary of that extraordinary document, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

On 8 December 2018 a human rights activist, historian, public figure, chairwoman of the Moscow Helsinki Group Lyudmila Mikhailovna Alekseyeva passed away. Our deepest condolences are with the relatives of this bright individual and a great woman.

On 8 November  2018 the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia hosted an open lecture by Georgette Gagnon, Head of the Department for Field Missions and Technical Cooperation of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, on the topic “70 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights”.

On 2, 6 and 7 November 2018 the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia hosted the legal module of the organization “Perspektiva” on the topic “Statutory provision of the rights of people with disabilities”. The training, which consisted of 4 sessions, was attended by students of the master's program “International Protection of Human Rights”, implemented by the Consortium’s universities. Through the organized video broadcast, students from the regions, studying at the Consortium’s universities, were able to actively participate in the classes. The following lecturers spoke to the students: Lin Nguyen, a lawyer at the “Perspektiva” RSDP; Head of the Department of Social Policy of the All-Russian Society of the Deaf, Maxim Larionov, Olesya Markova and Sergey Prushinsky. All students who have attended the legal module will receive appropriate certificates from the RSDP "Perspektiva".

On 29 November 2018 Prof., Doctor habilitatus (law), Honoured Lawyer of Russia A. Kh. Abashidze took part in the International Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Department of International Law of MGIMO of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. He made a report “The contribution of the Department of International Law of MGIMO to the establishment of the Department of International Law of RUDN University”, as well as together with the head of the Department of European Law of MGIMO of the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation prof. M.L. Entin led the round table on the second day of the conference.

The sixth summer school “70 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Legacy and Challenges of Our Time” was held from 2 to 6 July 2018 in Yekaterinburg.

More than 200 students from nine regions of Russia and four CIS countries took part in the sixth annual Summer School on Human Rights, organized by the Consortium of Russian Universities. This year, a week-long training program was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and focused on the legacy of the Declaration and the challenges of our time.
